What is this place?

This page exists to make note of those who's attempts at creating "drama" were so poor, their only long-term impact on the community is the bandwidth we are wasting by hosting this page.

Arby in 2020

In Mid 2020 a player called Arby joined the Surf Server and Discord. They quickly proclaimed themselves as the author of Kitsune 2 and other average over-hyped maps, and gained the attention of 1 player. This was enough to satiate their dormant requirement for constant attention, and thus began weeks of cries for attention in the forms of micro-aggressions, hostility and dismissive behaviour.

Arby latched onto the fact Easy ran on slightly lower gravity than standard which they found an affront to their beholden map. Every day they would moan about 800 gravity while Kitsune2 was being treated in the most inhumane way. When they weren't complaining about Kitsune2 not being on Hard, they would moan about a lack of features being immediately available, others having fun on Discord, and constantly try to steer conversations back to them to feed their habit.

On the 30th of June 2020 Teddi confronted Arby after once more demanding features be immediately designed just to meet their needs. They responded defensively, and while they had already planned to quit on the 7th of July due to no one actually wanting them around, at this stage they decided to delete every message they ever sent on Discord, and then leave the channel.

Acknowledgement of this was shared in the Discord General channel, confirming that Arby's had indeed closed shop in BB.

Traitors Avatar Arrives

Traitors appeared within BB at the start of 2022 and quickly made it his home. Every night he'd dominate the microphone in-game, often derailing conversations into political or sensitive topics designed to cause drama. Even when no one was talking, Traitors would begin talking to himself looking to bait reaction out of people.

Due to how vocal he was on voicechat and the topics he'd bring up, various individuals had issues with him, notably a group who took issue with his sexual proclivities, notably bestiality and graphic furry content (also an obsession with school shootings). Traitors would often require attention, and when this wasn't given he'd generate drama, such as by sharing his undesirable porn fetishes with others, hoping to find like-minded individuals. He would often try to entice players to other communities where he could share his fetish porn freely. Eventually his YouTube, Twitter and other accounts were a matter of public record given his tendency to share them, and, given their awful fetish nature, 'diaper gate' was born.

Diaper Gate

After Traitors Twitter feed was shared within the server, players realised he had fetishes including dragons, horses and general bestiality. A group of players started a rumour that he liked diapers (diaper fetishism, nappy fetishism, or diaperism). While this was generally unfounded, Traitors massively over-reacted to the claim, creating YouTube videos and long Tweets in response and engaging in long drawn-out arguments in-game. It is unclear why dragon dildos and horse bestiality were fine but diaperism was an apparent line. Traitor attempted to elicit high-profile social media individuals to his cause claiming to be a victim of harassment and bullying, whilst stoking the responses by responding to every troll bait without fail.

By late 2022 the Admin team were dragged into Diaper Gate due to its regular discussion on the server, Traitors claims of harassment, and the YouTube videos/Tweets covering the topic. Whilst it was agreed it was a ridiculous topic, it was acknowledged it was unfounded and had no merit as an accusation, and all players were told to cease bothering Traitors or mentioning diaperism. While players who were threatened with mutes generally stopped, Traitor would goad them into bringing up to the topic, for example by bringing it up on voicechat even though no one was discussing it, or when voicechat wasn't even in use. This would trigger players to ask about it, and repeat the cycle over and over.

This is an early instance of the Admin team realising Traitor was seeking attention and thrived on it, and wasn't a victim of harassment. Traitor refused to block or mute any of those he accused or harassing him, nor would he use /admin in an attempt to have them muted.

Accusations of Paedophilia

In early 2023, after a year of the above, a group of players attempted to 'entrap' Traitor by having him engage in sexualised chat (unknowingly) with a minor. Their hope was that he would feel obligated to leave the community or the Admin team would ban him, once presented with the evidence. While it appeared likely Traitor sent sexually suggestive artwork to a minor it was clear that it occurred as a result of being induced by the group. The Admin team ultimately accepted the groups findings albeit that it was a result of entrapment and placed Traitor under close watch going forward.

Use of Discord & NSFW Content

Traitors would regularly use the BB Discord to share graphic and unpleasant artwork, often related to Nazism, hate speech, bestiality and often dragons, school shootings, or a combination of all. BB Discord operated a 'NSFW' channel generally used for more inappropriate content, but was never used in such a way prior to Traitor, with flat-out fetish porn. No one on the server wanted to see this content, and after some weeks of Traitor posting the same awful content, it was decided to delete the channel outright by early 2023, as it was delivering zero value.

Traitor was unhappy with the decision, feeling he was being further restricted, however everyone else was happy to no longer see his content. He started using other Discord channels to post his terrible images, such as the Meme channel or other completely unrelated channels. His post would often be deleted, fuelling his conspiracy theories, and a decision was made to hide the majority of the Discord Channels from Traitor's view so he could no longer see or post in them. He believed they had all been deleted and would often complain about it.

Use of Hate Speech & Voice Mute

Traitor can be described as having right-wing extremist views, with open hostility to LGBT+ and other minorities or groups. He described previous trans and gay journeys in his earlier life, but claimed to "no longer be trans" by 2022. Traitor would deliberately target trans, gay, ethnic groups and other individuals, attempting to stoke hatred on the server against views or cultures that differed from his. Traitor would wait for no Admins to be on the server, then engage in voicechat to stoke hatred, such as praising Nazism, or encouraging anti trans discussions. Often the voicechat would be calm, and he would then steer conversations in a hateful way, looking to identify others that shared his beliefs.

As part of an effort to reduce a growing concern around a minority of disruptive players, the Admin team undertook a number of changes in early 2023, including re-writing the Global Rules to be more specific to hate speech and harassment, introducing new tools to shut down voice chat completely if needed and drastically increasing the length of punishments.

Traitor considered these approaches "Orwellian", feeling he was being prevented from expressing his beliefs openly. The changes made ushered in a crackdown on the worst offenders on the server, with various known problematic individuals receiving year long mutes to prevent them interacting with the community. While Traitor was initially spared a mute, by June 2023 he was muted on voice in-game to prevent his reoccurring breaking of the rules, and being the only voice new joiners were ever hearing, often followed by his hate speech.

Full Mute, Alt Accounts & Ban

By the end of 2023, Traitor's in-game voice mute had been extended to cover text after finding he was still engaging in the same behaviour, made much easier to prove given the written chat logs. It was decided to trial this full mute for several months and then review the findings although a downturn in hate speech on the server was forecast already.

After around a month, Traitor began to use alternative Steam accounts to join the server, utilising various tools to try and avoid detection. He would use text chat to avoid his distinctive voice being recognised, but his somewhat illiterate typing style, proclivity to use 'ALL CAPS', and constant return to the same old tired hate topics made him easy to identify once started looking.

Traitors alt accounts were permanently banned mid-November 2023 after being discovered, and it was decided to give him one more chance; either play on the server with the punishments applied, or don't play at all. Only a day later another alt account was created and joined the server, being detected quickly it was banned as well.

The conclusion was made that Traitor would not reform nor had any intention in trying to. He would continue to try to join the server and circumvent punishments the Admin team had applied, to continue breaking the rules, spewing bile and generating drama relentlessly. The decision was made to permanently ban his main account, all current and future alt accounts, and ban Traitor from the Discord.

Traitors Avatar Leaves

Ultimately this is a ridiculous case, which could have been avoided completely by Traitor simply using the /ignore tools to block those he did not want to hear from. Instead he reveled in the drama, controversy, and clearly thrived off it. Traitor would engage in behaviour designed to deliberately rile players and generate drama, he would then complain about said drama, claiming to be the victim at all times.

A combination of deplorable views, a complete refusal to change to better meet the community standards, repeated punishment evasion and a refusal to block players he didn't want to hear from so he could continue the drama, inevitably lead to Traitor being banned from the community, an act applied to very very few player over its 15+ year history. Traitor deliberately stoked tensions, hunted out minorities to harass, and showed complete intolerance to groups he did not agree with very vocally and repeatedly. His grim fetishes and over-willingness to share them with others made for uncomfortable situations that no one wanted to be a part of.
