Surf Ranks
Introduction
The ranking system is a way of seeing your aggregate timetrial performance across all maps in the previous twelve weeks.
The system gives you three key statistics, your percentile, a title (based on that percentile) and a title position (Your position versus all other players with that title).
The system also displays your current best time, and second best time across all maps, along with the top 50 players within the system.
The ranking system only considers times in the past twelve weeks, so this means that your rank will degrade as your times fall beyond this twelve week window (Known as "decaying"). So if you want to keep your rank, you have to keep setting times.
Ranks are calculated hourly, and update live on the server.
Calculation Basics
There is a multi-stage process to working your rank. In short, it's based on your aggregate performance across all maps.
- For every map, we first calculate a “weight".
- A maps weight is a complex calculation, but it’s rooted in how many unique players have completed that map over the past twelve weeks.
- For every map, we gather and sort all the times against that map for the past twelve weeks.
- We rank these, by their percentile, so the player at the top is the 100th percentile, whereas the player at the bottom is in the 0th percentile.
- We then calculate a “score” for this map, which is your percentile multiplied by the weight of the map. If you have no percentile for a map, we allocated a percentile of -50 for score calculations.
- We then aggregate all player scores together, and then order them on the final ranking leader board and allocate their respective percentiles (Top player is in the 100th percentile, bottom player in the 0th Percentile based on scores)
- Titles are then allocated based on these percentiles.

There are a total of 21 titles up for grabs, not including the “unranked” title. These are shown to the right.
