Stranded is a Garry's Mod gamemode that focuses on survival in extreme conditions. The objective of the gamemode is to survive in harsh conditions while attempting to evolve and become more efficient. Stranded usually takes place on a desert island with nothing more than a few trees, rocks and the ground. They have absolutely nothing to help them or assist them. Players need to fight to survive by finding natural resources and utilizing them to help further themselves.

Player Needs

The player has three specific needs in Stranded. These are:

If any of the above needs hit 0, you will start losing Health and eventually die. To prevent this from happening you can:

  • Eat anything edible which will satisfy your Hunger (using the use key).
  • Drink from any water source. The usual water source is the sea. You must hit your use key in the water to satisfy your Thirst.
  • Sleep (using the commands tab, or using /sleep) to waive off Fatigue. Note if you do not sleep under shelter (any prop that casts a shadow on you) your health will start to deplete because of the elements. Sleeping will cause the other needs to start to deplete faster then normal.

Health is not a need, however when depleted, you will die. You can restore health only by using medicine or eating cooked meals.

Skills

Skill are a key part of stranded, these determine what you can use, how much you can yield from a successful gather and your overall level. For example, Mining rocks will increase your Mining skill, chopping wood will increase your Lumbering skill and so on.

Tools

Tools are acquired with a workbench. This means that when you first start out, you'll be using your hands to find stone, to get wood etc. As you further progress with gathering these, your skills will increase allowing you to make more and faster.

Overall

When starting out, look for an area that has three things, namely water, trees and rocks. Do a bit of foraging for seeds, plant them and start getting wood. Soon your plants will have grown and hopefully you'll have a small base. From thereon, it's up to you to progress.
