RPX – Or Roleplay Anything

The server is currently in alpha running at: 96.44.144.138:27015

What is RPX – the idea is simple, you can roleplay anything you want – a hitman, psychopath, fireman, medic, taxi driver…etc without having to remember 100+ rule list in the process. The issue with having rules lists is that is creates a massive admin overhead, and also burns them out. Looking at other communities, they just have a constant churn of admins due to this burnout. We’ve also been through the hoops of hosting a RP server, and quite frankly, it’s exhausting.

RPX’s golden rule can be summed up as such – ‘You are your character’. What does this mean? It means that anything you know (Who killed you, who’s doing what…etc) is what your character knows; this means no concept of OCC or IC, and no NLR (Thank fuck!). You can go back and revenge kill that person who just robbed your if you want.

With RPX, the idea is to, instead, mechanically stop the player from doing anything we really don’t want them to do (E.g. Prop Kill) any handle the rest in law (E.g. Murder). For example, we limit the physgun mechanically to stop you prop killing / climbing / surfing (Seriously, try it, you can’t!). To stop you going on a rampant murder spree, there is a persistent crime and punishment system. So, if you want to go around being a ‘TARRORIST!’; you can, although expect to have to deal with the consequences. If you want to create a mega corporation and infiltrate the highest levels of government – go for it!

To make sure that new players aren’t gimped when they join, you will start off with a hefty amount of money, curtesy of the government.

We will be using evocity2_v5p as this map is huge, allowing for players to spread themselves out.

In order to see if there’s any interest in the game mode, we’re going to start an alpha and add bits to it overtime. We already have a good idea as to what we need to add in future, but there will be rough edges we need to smooth over. Fundamentally, the base of the gamemode is now there for us to build upon.

This gamemode will be built upon RP08. I know, it sounds like a bad idea, but it gives us a somewhat decent foundation to build off without re-inventing the wheel. We’ve done a number of optimisations to it, but there’s still work to do, which we will tackle as we go along.

You

There’s not a lot to say about you, as you probably know who you are. When you first spawn, you’ll need to set an RP name, and pick a model. Don’t worry, this isn’t permanent and can be changed by re-joining. There’s no real strict name guidelines (So the hilarity of Mike Hunt can begin), but if you want to RP seriously – you’ll need a serious name over than ‘MASSIVE FAGGOT’. When you join, you will be allocated a CZ ID; this ID is immutable and yours forever. If you commit a crime, this will be used in order to track you down and punish you.

Security

The Police

As the police now have a lot more shit the deal with, in the form of people killing each other, punching and assaulting for no reason, they have been buffed. Not just anyone can be police, but instead it’s application based. Depending on the police officer may depend on what they say / do to you – and also if they want to be bribed…

Crime and Punishment

The crime and punishment system is heavily fleshed out, with simple mechanics that cover most eventualities. So, what stops someone just murdering everyone they see? When you kill someone, you leave evidence behind which the police can then use to track you down (Corpses are now persistent so having a body in your flat is suspicious). With this information, the can create a warrant for your name; this warrant is persistent and the duration can vary from hours to forever for the worst of the worst. With this warrant, there is a fine; this fine may be enough to bankrupt you should you commit a severe enough transgression.

If someone sees you committing a crime, they can also report you on the forums; warrants can be applied when you’re offline so just because you think you got away with a crime, doesn’t mean it won’t come back to bite you later.

Arrests are also persistent (And I may make it so that they can also be added with a warrant), so disconnecting won’t get you out of jail!

CPET’s

Crime and Punishment Enforcement Turrets, acronymed CPETs, are turrets deployed within the main city to deter crime and act as a safeguard to help support the police at certain points.

The purpose is to ensure the city feels secure and that you as a resident can rest assured that there are still safe guards in place regardless of a police presence in your vicinity or not. Due to limited AI functions the turrets will only be monitoring murders, and they will need to occur within their presence. For that reason, the turrets will not differentiate between manslaughter and murder and are capable of using only lethal force - so performing crime is dangerous in their presence.

High Security Zones

In order to give players somewhere to relax, we’ve created a high security zone which encompasses the main city area. What makes this area high-sec is that fact it is overlooked by a highly intelligent surveillance system, along with the CPET’s. Either murder or manslaughter committed in the high security zone will result in the CPET’s swiftly neutralising you, and an automatic warrant (with a hefty fine) being placed on your head immediately.

If you would like this warrant removed as it was a genuine error, you will need to contact the local authorities.

Long term, if you have a warrant fine that is too high, you will be barred from entering high security by the CPET’s until you have served your time.

Cosmetics

To give players something to aim for, we’ve added a large number of cosmetics based on the BBase equip system. It works pretty much the same as it does in our other gamemodes, with a lot of the same items. This means items from hats, to caps to briefcases are available for players to equip and roleplay with (What says evil, maniacal corporation like a CEO with a cape?)

Crafting

To add an extra dimension, as well as give players something to fight over, we’ve added a crafting system. The system is primarily based on scrap metal, although some other items may require, other, rarer materials. Scrap metal can be acquired in three ways – it can be found in packages dotted around the map, mined using a thumper miner or traded with players. The most effective way is the thumper miner, but be warned – it’s big, loud and anyone can take its spoils so protect it well.

Vehicles

Mostly done, although we will be starting out with some simple vehicles (A jeep and a blue jeep for a police car). Long term, we plan on adding more vehicles into the game.
