The Cook was a productive class, being there to feed those who got hungry. However when they were initially introduced, there was no need for them, unless a person wanted to roleplay a cafe. Hunger was brought in, however it was so low users usually died from other means before hunger could get them
Hunger Update
Hunger was increased so having cooks became a near neccessity. This, combined with a +10 Token (40 Tokens in total) salary increase made them more attractive. However most players would go cook to buy the food, then switch to the class they wanted anyhow.
Another Hunger update
Hunger was to be slowed slightly again, due to some protests from players. It takes approximately 37 minutes to get to 100% hunger.
